SEEd Launch at House of Commons
Posted: 04 December 2008
The launch of Sustainability and Environmental Education (SEEd) took place at the House of Commons on 20 November, 2008. The event was hosted by Barry Sheerman MP, with guest speakers including Peter Ainsworth MP and Sara Parkin.

More than 100 guests attended the launch that included representatives from Government, NGO's, local authorities and teachers.
Ann Finlayson, the recently appointed director of SEEd, said:
“SEEd is delighted to have this active support. With the urgent threat from climate change and the meltdown in the global markets, evidence of environmental and social damage has never been clearer. There has never been a more important time for education for sustainability and the environment to be mainstreamed. Yet it is hit and miss whether in a young person's schooling and education they automatically get the full skills, knowledge and competencies to help them understand and tackle these global crises. SEEd will help ensure sustainable development and environmental education are fully integrated into the UK education system.”
SEEd will be a national membership body that will facilitate wide stakeholder engagement, promote shared learning and develop cross-sector partnerships with government, business, educators and NGOs.
SEEd’s objective is to enable the education sector to drive Education for Sustainable Development and Environmental Education into the mainstream of the education system and its’ communities. This includes schools, colleges and universities.
SEEd will provide capacity building, training and support -
